I just had to blog about this now too so I can look back later and laugh. It is actually kinda funny now too that I've calmed down and it was yesterday that it happened.
Anyway, 2 nights ago, he was in the sun room (playroom) and coloring quietly and watching TV while I was making supper. He didn't stay out more than maybe 10 mins, and then came in to be with me and "watch" me finish. Then, we went into the living room and played a while. After it got dark, I went out to make sure the doors were locked up, and shut the curtains. Never turned the light on so I missed it that night. Fast forward to yesterday morning. Mid morning I went out to turn tv on for him while I mopped the kitchen. On the way to it, the tv looks weird.
Then I realize what it was.
Someone little colored the TV. It appeared to be crayon. AHHHHHHH!!!!!
He colored the tv screen, & top of the tv, corner to corner. I tell him to come out and asked what that was. He said he didn't know, and he was sorry. I asked if he was coloring the tv, and he said no. So to regroup and figure out how to get it off, I sent him to his room for a few mins. I try to get it with soap and water and that didn't work very great. It got some of what was on the top, but the screen it just smeared it all around. So then I tried windex. That did a little more, but it was still kinda smeared and thicker in some spots. I looked through all the cleaning stuff, and finally decided to try the Easy Off stove top cleaner. What we use for our glass top stove.... Anyway, that worked to get the greasy nasty mess off, and then I just finished it up with a little more windex and final wipe of the water paper towel. I felt accomplished, and I turned around to pick up all my cleaning supplies and rags off his little desk, and there is more. He colored the whole top of his desk, and in the little indents for art supplies. I tried the soapy rag on it, and it wasn't too hard to come off, so I went up and talked to him about what was going on.
It went something like this....
Me: "Kristopher, do you know why were sent to your room?"
Him: "I'm sorry mommy. Someone did color the tv."
Me: "Did you do that?"
Him: "I don't think so....I'm so sorry!!" Insert a few tears for extra convincing.
Me: "Did you use a marker or crayon?"
Him: " Crayon."
Me: "What color?"
Him: "Red. I'm sorry!!"
Me: "What else did you color?"
Him, with more tears. "My d..d...desk...And..the wall. I'm really sorry!!"
4 year olds are so emotional at times. I get him calmed down and said that I'm not happy that he colored those, and he can't have his crayons or markers back again unless we are sitting together to do them, and that he is going to help me try to clean up his desk.
He was excited about that idea, and ran down to help. I asked him where he colored the wall because I didn't find the spot anywhere, and he said. "hmm maybe I forgot to color there." ok....Well, we got the desk totally clean, and everyone was happy. By this point it was lunch time and the mopping just didn't happen yesterday.
Then we get to late afternoon, and he wanted to play out there but said the sun shining in was too bright, so I went out to shut the blinds and I found his "wall" spot. He colored the trim under the windows from one end of the room, to the other door, which is about 30ft. 2 big lines the whole way over. I asked what that was and he started the "I'm sorry!!" and he went running and grabbed the rags again and started cleaning it off. Everyone was on their way home from work, and he was worried about me telling anyone else because he said that's what a little boy would have done, and that he was a big boy and please don't tell them he did that. He didn't want anyone to see it so he was rushing around like a little crazy fool trying to get it to come off. Luckily, the soapy wet rags worked great for everything but that tv screen. You can't even tell that it was colored anywhere except on the trim, there is an indent of the line. That's not a big deal because that's being replaced eventually this year...
In my panic yesterday, I did not get pictures of the damage of the tv or desk, but I did run for the camera when he was rushing to clean the trim. It was cute and I had to hide so he didn't see me laughing over it. So here's some pics :)
He realized he missed a spot and made me move the vacuum out of the way.
And, later that evening, he ended up telling on himself when he was asked what all he did that day. "Mommy found where I colored the tv and my desk and the wall so we had a busy day of cleaning up the mess and putting my crayons away. WAIT! I didn't want to tell you that!!!!" And he ran away for a minute because he was embarrassed that he told on himself.
He definitely needs a sibling to blame some of this stuff on.
