Random Friday Thoughts

Today will end the 3rd full week of babysitting for me. It's going pretty good. I've managed to get the kids on a good nap routine and this week have the baby napping at the same time as her sister. I feel like it's a major accomplishment because they do not nap for anyone else, including at home. But for me, they are easy. Weird.

My weeks have definitely been busier and exhausting. I like it though. Minus the baby spit up and extra laundry because this baby spits up a ton and soaks me at least 2 times per day. I could skip that part. Very new to me because Kristopher was not that kind of baby. Speaking of Kristopher, he is loving "us" babysitting. He is convinced he is doing a huge part of it. Not sure what exactly but this little girl LOVES to be everywhere that he is. So he does help a lot by playing when the baby needs me more. And the baby is pretty cool to him too. He's in that cooing and squealing stage and we've managed to get a few real giggles too and K thinks that is just the coolest thing ever. That and gas. He also finds it hilarious that the kid farts like a grown man.

Zoey is doing better. I skipped out on the steroids with her because she did not improve at all on Saturday, so we went straight to the hard core antibiotics and it stopped everything. She's acting normal again and I just have to make an extra effort to keep her out of the kitchen if there is anyone eating.

Tonight I'm going to attempt to go to the PA Garden Expo. There is suppose to be orchids there. I've developed a major addiction or obsession sounds better I guess, to these things. I hope the weather doesn't cancel the show.

Both my husband and I got netbooks 2 weeks ago. Mine is pink so there is no chance of him trying to steal mine. I love the battery life, and how easy it is to tote around with me. But, its got a super tiny screen, and none of my photo editing software on it. When I sit down to work at that, someone wakes up or needs me, so I have no uploaded those yet. Pictures hopefully to come this weekend. Definitely trying to get use to the tiny screen though. When it's late at night and I'm tired, my eyes crap out.

Now to try my luck at getting everyone ready to leave here in the next 45 mins. Friday's we meet to swap the kids at a half way point, and I go on to do my errands and groceries. I'm slower at getting out the door now...ha.

Mid Week Update

I think this period is finally ending. It's been a spotting to barely spotting 24 hrs now. Today is day 7. For some reason I thought I was much farther along with things than that. Sure felt that way.
So my first herbal cycle has ended, and I had the period that they said I should have. Started really gross, and then was heavier than "normal", and also lasted a bit longer than normal. I survived it so it wasn't that bad. I have had worse, so I shouldn't complain. I do know that my iron levels were dropping a lot so I kept snacking on things to help feel less dizzy. That made me gain like 2lbs for the past week. Not good. Must get back on track with that. If it ever gets warm again, I might be able to start walking regularly again. Apparently warmer is not in my immediate future because they are calling for another coastal storm to come through. Could get up to 10-20 inches if it hits, if what I was told was correct. I'm hoping she was wrong...

Saturday I got a ton more orchids. My total count now is 32. I think I need mental help. Although, they are so pretty and blooming so nicely this winter that it helps with my usual winter depression or whatever it is called. I keep wanting to do an orchid photoshoot, but discovered that is pretty hard to fit in with a 3 month old and toddler to care for too. I'm still trying to find a schedule that works well that they will nap together for me. We're making progress on that. So later if I can do my editing, I'll post some new orchid pictures....

Again

I feel with my blog, I'm a lot more organized and documented with things going on. So, for my records again, Zoey is sick.
Now, I'm not 100% sure that this time was some fluke thing. She was bad yesterday and stood up at the table after the kids were done eating. The little girl I babysit is only 16 months old, so of course some things end up on the floor. I limit the amount of time that the dog is allowed out while we are eating, and she has to stay away from the table. When I get the baby down, I always make sure the floor is clear and so is her booster seat because Zoey can reach that. However, yesterday the other baby was fussing, so I didn't clear the table completely. There was a few bites of chicken on the plate still, and it was close to the edge of the table. Fast forward to this morning. Zoey is hairy, and I'm slacking in the grooming department. So when she has diarrhea, she needs cleaned up a little or else that could just be very nasty for the carpet or anywhere she decides to sit down at. The wipes had what appeared to be the seasoning from marinade. So, the only way she got that chicken was if she stole it from the table. That would mean she is BAD. And I do remember, when I came back out to the kitchen last night, she was raised up near the table, sniffing. I never thought she could reach that far so thought nothing of that till the diarrhea started at 2am.
So, Zoey starts steroids today. She is to stay on her normal food and mix in a little pasta instead of switching her to a totally bland diet again. I switched her food to California Naturals a few months back, and it's suppose to be the best for dogs with food allergies and sensitive stomachs, so both the vet and I agree, there is no point in taking her off that for a week or 2 and making special meals for her. The steroids will help with this if it's doggy IBS. All her tests are totally normal, so that's what it has to be. We will also have more of her diarrhea meds on hand, and a back up bottle of antibiotics for if it doesn't get much better.
She's acting more normal this time and it's not quite as frequently as it was in the past, so I'm pretty sure it's just because she was a bad doggy. I guess I might have to invest in some baby gates again and keep her gated from the kitchen if she can't behave herself.
And I will also add that having baby wipes on hand has helped a ton with cleaning her up. And she smells better too. Now I just have to replace those wipes before Monday.....oops.

Note to self...

Dear self,
Do not EVER brag about not having cramps. It WILL come back to bite you.
Thanks.
Love,
Me

BLAH! (they aren't as bad as normal but most definitely there now, and color changes so it's definitely here. Here's to hoping that from this point forward, the HB does the trick, and I have some luck!)

Major Ewww

Ok, this is going to be a pretty gross post, so feel free to skip over it. If you continue to read, I am sorry for the nasty TMI that this includes.
The herbs have finally kicked in. Earlier in the week, I started spotting nasty brown. That is exactly what they said SHOULD happen, but seeing as I'm on my last 2 weeks of the 3rd round, I figured I wasn't responding and it wasn't working properly. Obviously I was wrong. They said it would take 3-6 months to kick in so at least it hit me before too much longer. So yeah, earlier in the week (Monday I believe) spotting had started. It was brown, and enough that it was more than just on tp when I used the bathroom. Break out the panty liners. Tuesday it was more regular, still that nasty brown. Wednesday more of the same, but not regular enough to call this anything more than spotting. Very early Thursday AM, I woke up and had what appeared to be real flow. Brown. Very dark and very gross. Liners were no longer cutting it, so break out the pads. Yesterday I declared it as day one, and the brown had turned to a very deep dark red mix and was consistent enough to think things were here. Fast forward to today. Its back to mostly spotting. And now no more red to it at all. Back to brown nasty. I have no clue what is going on, and the herbal place says this is totally normal for when things first kick in. After this round of the T&C Formula, I'm going to discontinue it and stick with just the HB for the hormone balancing. The T&C was just to get things shedding and a "fresh start" and 3-6 months is plenty. She recommends since I have this going on now, this should be my last round with it. Works very well because the T&C is the worse tasting of the 2.
So what I've noticed with this going on is, the herbs have helped to eliminate the cramping. With what was going on Wed-Thurs, I should have had some serious cramping. I did have some mild cramping earlier in the week, but I honestly didn't realize it was this gearing up. I typically have 2-3 days of horrific cramping that limits my daily activities. It has helped majorly with that. Another notice is if this truly is a period, it's not crazy heavy to start. It's like what I deal with after the first 2 days.
So I'm guessing I should classify today as day 2, even though it has never turned bright red, and it's basically down to spotting now. It confuses me. Sorry again for the grossness.

Exhaustion

I'm feeling major exhaustion now. I've been going non stop since Friday, and add the lack of sleep with the barfy kid Sunday night, it is finally catching up to me. Kristopher slept all night last night and I finally woke him up at 10am this morning. He had me scared because my kid never sleeps that late. Not even close. And he was asleep very early last night. So I woke him. He is doing better today. More energy, and drinking lots. He even ate some dry cheerios and asked for jello. So at least he is somewhat hungry again. Anytime I hear him cough or clear his throat, I jump out of my skin thinking it's hitting him all over again. He told me I'm being annoying because I keep asking him if he feels ok.
I still have the kids today even though I warned her that he's been sick. I warned her that I wasn't sure if it was a sickness or something he ate, and she still decided to bring them. For today, K's been isolated to the sunroom with tv and games. Limiting their interaction should prevent them from catching it too if it is something other than food related. And if not, I had warned her in advance. Not much else I can do on that one.

Other news, I've started spotting yesterday. It's pretty often but not changing to anything more yet. Tomorrow I switch to the T&C for my last time. Giving that one 3 months then I'll stick to strictly HB formula for however long it takes to get me regulated and a chance to see if it works. I'm assuming the spotting and crampiness I'm feeling means something will eventually start. And maybe that's why I feel so tired today too. I think early to bed is in my plans for tonight.

Vomit

In my opinion, the worst part of being a parent is when your child is sick. Especially vomit. Before I was a mother, I could not stand to even hear someone else vomit without my gagging starting and ending in the same. Even when I had the really bad morning sickness, I kept going as long as I saw it.
Anyway, my little man is sick. In his 5.5 yrs of life, he's only had 2 other times that he had the barfing type sickness. And the last was well over a year ago so he was very confused when it hit last night. I'm not sure if this is part of the left over stomach bug we had going on a few weeks ago, or if it is food related because we were out to eat twice this past weekend. He lived on way too much junk in the past 3 days due to us being on the go and very busy, and I think it finally got to him. So last night, I just got in the shower and Dennis was putting him to bed. I heard a weird cough, and then heard running. Dennis had just left the room from putting him to bed. He apparently just shut our bedroom door and he heard a cough, then the cough followed by that unmistakable sound of vomit hitting the floor. And since he doesn't know what to do about stuff like this, he stood there frozen while it kept coming up. Poor kid. And I must say, I'm so thankful that my husband was here to help with that because it was so nasty and disgusting. He cleaned up the most of it without even flinching and I took care of carpet cleaning.
After I got the room back in order, we had him go back to bed and he started with about every 20-40 mins from 9pm till at least 2:30am till there wasn't anything left. Towards the end it was happening in his sleep because he was that worn out. I felt horrible for him and the fact that there wasn't anything I could do to ease it any. He kept crying that he just wants it to stop, and that he doesn't know why it happened.
Today he isn't even asking about food and ate like one small piece of jello. He's drinking fine and just laying around. No other belly related issues. He also fell asleep 3 times so far today. He's insisting on staying up like we had planned for over a week now because there is a new show on at 8pm that he really wants to see. As of right now, he's been asleep on the couch for over an hour. I don't think he's going to see that show.

Full of blizzard pictures

This first one is the one rare time we could see our garage yesterday. Obviously it was incredibly windy, and we were drifted shut so bad that plows could not open us up. We got this wonderful giant snow blower come through at 6am (3 hrs after my husband tried and failed at getting to work). Before that 2 plow trucks tried and it just was not happening. That thing came through and magically we had a lane open. Notice my car....The wind was so strong that it cleared my windshield completely off. No scrapping for me! Here's our road after the plows went 2 at a time for about an hour. Our fence is 4 ft tall (I think) and some drifts have it covered in spots. Mostly where the camera didn't catch.
We took a test drive around the neighborhood to see if it was safe to have him go to work, and for the kids to come today. Not babysitting today either because as you can see in the picture below, the wind is making it drift back shut again and too fast for them to keep up with it.
Fields are slightly bare. Why did it have to blow it all to the road?
My boy finally woke up and got to come out. He was actually asking to go in and have more hot chocolate.
My poor freezing doggy. She doesn't realize that her hair is suppose to keep her pretty warm.

Blizzard

Well, it's still going strong. So far, we have not lost power. I'm amazed because it's crazy windy. We've lost satellite a few times, but that's it. My husband made it home safely. He claims he got stuck twice, but he knows what to do and how to handle it, so it wasn't anything bad. It took him an extra hour to get home, and our road is totally drifted shut with drifts higher than his car! He has an Xterra, which is pretty high. I haven't seen a snow plow all day. The only traffic is snowmobiles so I'm assuming we are still drifted shut. We have a 4 ft snow drift at the mail box. Poor Zoey has a drifted pee path and is officially saying screw the snow and peeing on the sidewalk and running back in. She's on poop strike. The wind is here till at least tomorrow afternoon, but I think the snow is over. It's still a white out effect due to this crazy blowing. The main highways are still closed, and state workers are on 2 hr delay tomorrow. My husbands work never closes, and he plans on going in and will try at his regular time (3am) and come back home if it's drifted bad still and wait again till daylight. I'm fairly sure I won't be babysitting tomorrow, again. It will give us more time to get cleared out a little better. Tomorrow I'll do a picture post.

Another snow storm

We are in the middle of what appears to be a blizzard. They are calling for us to get around 18 inches this time. We still have about that much on the ground from the weekend storm! It's crazy windy right now, and we're expecting to probably lose power soon. It's crazy. And my husband decided to go to work anyway today, even though we had a good 6 inches down when he left. I hope he can make it home safely. I'm more worried about idiots who are out playing and don't know how to properly handle in snow, wrecking into him than I am about his driving ability. He says he will work till around 1 and then hopefully gets home. Pretty much everywhere has closed today. I would bet a lot will be closed tomorrow as well. I have yet to see a plow hit our road. There was only 2 trucks that live up the road, go past today so far. And the news is advising people to stay home unless it's an absolute emergency. Ugh. I honestly wouldn't be bothered by this if he was just home safe right now!
I guess I should make something for supper and keep it in the crock pot just in case the power goes out. That way we definitely have supper. It's already planned to camp out in the living room at the fireplace if we lose it for too long. I wish we had a whole house generator....

Snow and grandma's

Today's new update is they are calling for 10-15 inches tonight, and another 3-5 tomorrow by 4pm. And then it's suppose to get windy and nuts and drift all around. I want the snow and they are saying it is suppose to be a really wet "snowman" snow. We are going to give that a try tomorrow. Dennis is taking the day off afterall because they are advising people to stay off the roads, and if he goes in, his drive home will be really bad with the wind and drifting. So I think I have him convinced to stay home. I should check to make sure he didn't set his alarm before I fall asleep tonight. He's passed out already after an extremely long day.
News just said we have at least 3 inches already and it's getting heavier and faster. Suppose to be around 2 inches an hour till morning. Kind of exciting! At least we are all home and safe.

The grocery trip sucked majorly. Between the freaking out about the weather, and people stocking up for superbowl parties, I didn't get everything I needed for the week. What typically would only take at the most 3 hrs to get there and back, took over 5 hrs. People were seriously driving me crazy with blocking the aisles and being so rude and nasty. Kristopher did pretty good with it all, but the 85 yr old grandma was bad. She kept taking off and I finally gave up trying to find her and went on my way with my list. She eventually found me again and stuck a little closer. I know it's kind of rude of me to make fun of the behavior, but she seriously reminds me of Kristopher with money while shopping. She will find junk food that looks good and completely get super excited about how good it looks and how she has to have it. She then can't wait to get home and rip it open. I think she is starting to seriously lose her mind and that is not funny. But finding the humor in the little things is what makes it easier for me to handle her lately. It's very difficult to take her along when I'm in a rush and today was definitely one of those days. I feel like I repeated myself a million times and she would still come back to the same questions. I don't know if she is truly not hearing it, or just not remembering it. She gives me an attitude like she's doing it on purpose so I really don't know. I'm on the crap list with her right now because I'm going to be babysitting and she is jealous I won't have as much time for surprise outings with her. Which we haven't been doing much in a while anyway, but still. Her way of coping with the news is to treat me like crap and try to make me not do it.
I don't want to turn it into a big complaining post about how she's nuts, because maybe she truly can't help it and someday I don't want to look back and regret this. It's just a change I wish I didn't have to deal with. I already lost one grandmother to Alzheimer's, but we weren't as close as this one so I don't remember the beginning stages. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking that's what it is...

Thursday night thoughts

First news is we have another snow storm coming up the coast. Possibly a foot this one. Then another starting to form for Tuesday. It's definitely still winter. And of course we are out of everything for real right now, because Friday's is usually grocery day. Well, thanks to the storm, I have to deal with all the idiots out with their snow storm freak out shopping. Yay. And with a 5 yr old and 85 yr old because I have to take my grandma along. I decided if I can handle going out with those 2, I can handle going out at any given point with the kids while babysitting....

The funniest thing that happened this week was a visit with my amish neighbor today. I had something baby related that I was given that isn't going to work for us here so I walked over to see if she would be interested in it. She says they have a "vibrator" but her baby doesn't like it. The perv in me is laughing hysterically inside. Apparently she meant a bouncer seat that vibrates, but they call them vibrators. Her sister told her that all her girls liked the vibrator so she doesn't understand why her baby doesn't like it. Seriously was dying inside. Then she asks if I'd like to see the vibrator, she can bring it out. It's in the bedroom. Nah, that's ok. I'll pass. So hilarious.

Other than the grocery store, tomorrow's plan is going to be get my living room organized a little different because it's officially taken over by baby stuff in preparation for next week. I think the bunny is going to be moving back into the sun room soon because she takes up a lot of room and is getting a bigger cage in a few weeks anyway. I hope she doesn't mind her move....

My crazy husband is on his way back to work after only 3 hrs of sleep. They got slow back in November and he had to lay off a whole crew. Since then, it's been just busy enough that he could use a few extras back, but instead they have him working more to avoid it till they are sure those people will be back to stay. So, he came home, ate and went to bed, and left again at 10:30. He will be there till tomorrow afternoon and says he's going back Saturday morning. I hate it. I worry he will push himself too far. I worry that he isn't getting enough sleep. He seems ok but I still worry. And I hate sleeping alone. My bed is going to be cold and lonely. I guess I should go attempt to sleep finally because we need to leave early in the morning. Ugh.

It went well

Babysitting went really well. I'm exhausted though because I stayed up entirely too late and only got about 3 hrs of sleep before up for the day. I'm trying to stay awake though till the 11 o'clock news comes on so I can figure out what is going on for the weekend. We're apparently suppose to be getting a pretty big snow storm Friday afternoon into Saturday afternoon. I'm one of those weirdo's who are actually looking forward to it. I hope it's a wet snow and we're able to finally make a snowman. And I want to be able to take Kristopher sledding. As long as it's all snow and not ice, I'll be fine. Ice makes us lose power and that's not good. I can't live amish even for a few hours.

Anyway, back to babysitting. It went really good and the babies were super well behaved. My boy though, totally different story. He is in this major attitude right now that 5 means he's an adult and he doesn't have to listen to anything. Again. So today was a bit stressful at times but because he was being really out of control, showing off because other people are here. This will be good for him though I believe and he is going to have to get over this sooner or later. He does great when we go visit other people, it's just something about other's coming here. It has to stop. I'll leave it at that though today. I'm going to try to stay awake for 20 more mins to hear about this storm. More to come tomorrow.

Early morning random

So far already today I've vacuumed the whole downstairs, gotten baby stuff brought into the livingroom where it's nice and warm, put teeny tiny toys away from the living room and taken 1 dose of my herbs. Yes, I got them finally!!! I'm sending the check to pay along with my next order so they are here way before I need them. Smart thinking.
I'm babysitting today. It wasn't suppose to start till next week but the current sitter called them early this morning and said she can't watch them today. I'm not sure if this is just today or they have just switched to me early. I will find all that out later I'm sure. It works though. I planned on being home all day anyway to wait for a package.
I'm surprisingly wide awake for this early. And my house is beyond quiet with K sleeping. I don't know that I like that. At night when he goes to bed it's a totally different story. But being up early and getting things done around here without his questions and typical noise is kind of lonely. I don't even want to think about fall yet.
So my herbs were late because the midwife was away. My plan is to have a round on hand from now on, so the new order is going out today. Each time I finish a bottle, I'll reorder. That way it's always here. Amish people go on vacation a lot I guess. Weird.
Ok so I'll go get the last of my stuff finished before little people arrive. I'm sure I'll be exhausted by lunch. It's all good though. I get baby time!!

Herbal call

I am still without herbs. I called the company today and asked what to expect now that I've been several days without them. They said since it's the T&C Formula right now, not to worry about it. The HB is the most important of the 2, and to go ahead and start what I have on Thursday like regularly scheduled. So that is a big relief.
Tomorrow I'm going to try to check with the neighbor about getting a number for this midwife. I'd really prefer to continue ordering from her because she only charges exact shipping, and it's $8 less per bottle. But, if I'm going to run into this problem each time, then I'd rather just pay the extra so I can track it and know for sure when something is shipped. Maybe I could even go there and pick it up if she is ok with that.
I also talked to the herbalist today about how I have yet to have a period on this. She said again it takes about 3-6 months to notice anything normal starting. Most people have spotting and the whole "cleansing" stuff going on. I have had cramping, some ovary pains here and there, and a little of the whole mid cycle spotting. But no period. When I start the HB on Thursday, it will be the start of the 3rd round. They told me today that after the 3rd round is over, if I have not started a period, not to worry about continuing the T&C. It will be ok to just do the HB the whole cycle to get things regulated better. That's good with me. I should definitely notice a real difference by the 6 month mark. So that means I'm halfway.
I didn't sleep much last night so I'm sorry if this was a big rambling mess. More to come tomorrow.
