Summer Goals

I've seen this on several different blogs and I really feel like I agree. A lot of people make new years resolutions. I have tried, and I always fail. Summer is like a new start to me as well. The weather is warmer (or insanely hot like it is already here) and most of our time is spent enjoying outside. So I do have a ton of goals for the summer.

First is obviously the move. We are 20 days from signing. Once we are in, I want to try to throw together a small garden. I want to plant carrots, peas, lettuce and 2 or 3 tomato plants. And some herbs.
Since we will have a really nice yard, I also want to get Kristopher a wooden swing set. We had one of the step 2 sets for several years but my freakishly tall child has long outgrown that. We passed it down to the little kids. I think it's time for a really kick butt swing set at home.

I'm going to continue working hard at the weight loss. I had my 3rd appt today, and I'm down another 2lbs. It inspires me, and I'd love to try to lose at least 5lbs per appt now. That's keeping it a slow go, but still managing something. I actually think once we move, it will happen a lot easier. If I can push that to 2lbs per week from now till I'm done, I'll pass their goal and hit my own. I would love nothing more than to see that happen because that will be almost cooler weather. I have a ton of really nice clothes that I got when I did this before, and I'd love to be able to wear them all comfortably this fall and winter. (I just went and ate 3 cookies after writing this because it's been one of those days already.)

Summer plans for keeping Kristopher challenged. Someone gave us a pile of magic treehouse books. He wants to read them all. So, we're going to have reading time during the little kids nap time. He also needs a lot of practice on his fine motor skills. So, lots of writing activities, cutting, and a big milestone we'd like to see happen is teaching him to tie his shoes. Right now he lives in sketchers which are nice, but I got a few pair of hiking boots/work boots on clearance in a size up and I'd like for him to be able to wear and use them on his own.
Another goal he has is to learn to ride his bikes without training wheels. He does not do well on his bike WITH training wheels. We've been practicing and he's slowly learning that a little shift is not going to flip the bike, and I even noticed yesterday that at one point neither training wheel completely touched the ground. I've started making it a race and he's been giving me quite the workout when he gets to going fast. He also needs to learn how to stop when things start to get too out of control. He just panics and I have to grab the bike to keep him from going off the sidewalk and into the street. Fun stuff.
Other than all that, I just want for the summer to be more laid back and fun. I need to find a way to lower my stress levels and learn to sit back and enjoy what we have now. I spend way too much time stressing stuff that in the long run is not that important. I've missed out on a lot of fun experiences and memories by worrying about all the what ifs, and I think it's time to change that. It will be a much better summer for everyone.

A first experience

Thursday was a first for us. We experienced what appears to be our first tornado. South of us had one confirmed, and another area about 5 mins from us also has been confirmed. Both were categorized as low on the scale, but still, we don't get that type of storms here. We were watching outside as the clouds started coming in. It was very freaky and different, and when they started to have some rotation, we ran in and took the kids & animals to the basement. The kids mom was here and said she was waiting till it passed to go home, so we left her settled in the basement while we ran up to the kitchen to see what was going on. It was very dark, trees were blowing around like I've never seen before. Then I saw some limbs dropping, and hail had started so I went back down. I never heard the major wind like they said we would, but maybe it's because our home is the middle townhouse. We checked out the basement door a few times, and the air just smelled like cut wood. Pretty freaky. One time we peeked out, some chunks of hail flew in. The bunny was furious that I shoved her into a pet taxi carrier, and the dog was freaking out because she doesn't like the basement. Kristopher did pretty good, but was worried because we had the news on tracking it and the tips they said about tornado's, scared him. He was worried about when we would eat, since it hit right before I start supper. The little kids were horrible to try to keep contained and calm. They were not having any part of being held and sat with and the baby was into EVERYTHING. I really hope we don't have to experience hiding in the basement again like that with everyone. Or at all would be nice too.
So the damage here was pretty light compared to the big ones that are on the news lately. The place across the parking lot from us had a tree fall on their car. We use to live in that unit years ago, and that was my parking spot. There was also a tree that fell into the back part of that side as well, and pulled a street light out on the way down. The street light caught on fire, and caught the tree too so we had some fire drama. It went out before it reached the building, but when we first went out after the wind stopped, we saw a ton of smoke coming from the roof.
Shortly after we were checking damages here, my husband got a phone call about damage at work. That's where the other tornado was confirmed, and work had some things that had to be taken care of. So we all loaded up, including the dog, and went to work with him. The streets were flooded pretty bad, but he has a Xterra and decided we were going thru it anyway. Pretty high water, but we splashed on thru. Trees were down all over the place, and streets were completely closed in town. At work, there was more flooding and a lot more damage with trees and fences.
Kristopher and I took a walk first thing yesterday morning to assess the damage in town, and the park we like to walk at a lot has trees down and trails blocked. And I haven't seen the baby ducks since the afternoon before it hit.
Here's a picture of the cloud right before it started coming towards us:

Random stuff...

I have a ton of stuff on my mind tonight. A nice long random post to clear my mind since I've been living in lonely mommy land.

There is 10 days of school left. Mostly activity filled. He's kinda bummed that school is almost over, and I'm trying to get a meeting in effect before it's over to get some activities to keep him learning this summer. The preschool stuff was easy. The 1st grade and up, is harder to find stuff that fits his exact learning style. I also want to know what the game plan is for next year. He's asking to follow the 1st grade reading group to 2nd grade. Not sure how that will work.

We're debating getting another dog when we move. I don't remember if I wrote about it, but 2 months ago, I found an amish breeder that had Keeshonds. Amazingly awesome price, and pure breed. They had a litter avaiable the day I had asked if they still bred them. We spent an hour and half and I walked away. Good thing too because when I called to ask, I was told absolutely no other pets here, and that the pet policy became very strict. So, there is a new litter due this summer and they have my number. If they call me, it's going to be very hard to say no. In a way, it feels like wrong timing, but then again, maybe it will make Zoey a little more active. She likes the company of the neighbor dog, and was actually fine when we met the pups. She didn't seem to care about them, but she was not mean or agressive in any way. So we will see. I feel like we should get one before she gets any older, or anything happens to her. That sounds really wrong, and I don't mean it in a replace the dog type of way. She is more than any dog could ever be, and I won't even begin to think about what that will be like....

Babysitting is still keeping me busy. The kids are pretty fun, but we've hit a really interesting stage with the girl. She's going to be 3 in September. I never had any real drama with Kristopher till he was 4. So this attitude and bad stuff is all new. Either the true meaning of terrible 2's, or maybe it's just a girl thing. I don't like it but we're working thru it. She can be so mean and bossy, then so super sweet all in the same minute. The baby isn't really a baby anymore I guess. He's 18 months and copying all his big sister's drama. In the past 2 days, they've both ended up giving me near heart attacks with blood and tears. One bit thru the lip, the other got a bloody nose face planting off the couch. Again, I don't remember this with K....

Diet is going ok. I'm down 4lbs total so far. This is week 3. So i guess that's a really good thing because they said the best loss is slow. I just wish it was more. I also don't be as careful as I should. If i replaced a ton of the calories with more veggies, that would probably help.

I'm sort of excited and hopeful about the next round though. I'm hooked on the baby thoughts again, and really hope that this can work out. I feel like if it doesn't, I'm giving up and will see what we can do to try to adopt without it killing us financially. I'd be ok with adoption, and probably not pick tiny baby stage because there are so many older kids in need. I'd like to keep the age around Kristopher, or younger, but there is still that part of me that feels I need to experience it all again. I was stupid then, and didn't realize that it may not happen again. So I have no pictures, and other than the constant throwing up, there's not too many memories about pregnancy. I think it would be nice to be able to enjoy it. Work made things very difficult and by the time I quit, it was almost the end. It went too fast to remember much.

I need to go clean and try to get to bed earlier tonight. Mornings suck lately. At least my mind is semi clear. Maybe that will help me sleep....

We are moving!!

This is short. Will update more later. But I'm so excited. We found a new rental! A house. Not a town house, not an apartment, but a HOUSE! Bigger than here, a HUGE yard and still in the same school.
Moving will happen at the end of June. I dropped off our notice tonight.
We are MOVING!! :)

2 week

My 2 week weigh in was decent enough. I'm down 2.4lbs. Wish it didn't have that point in between, but whatever. They were very pleased with that. Go back in 2 weeks.
Apparently I'm doing really good and keeping great logs of everything.
Not much else to report. Rainy boring day and as usual I have a day kid free and no one is available for lunch or any time to visit. I guess I'll go clean...

Some updates

First of all, Kristopher is feeling a lot better. He went back to school last Friday, and has been pretty much normal since. Still coughing a good bit, but no longer constant. He dreads the medicine because it tastes really bad. So we give it fast, and he has a chaser with it. It's kinda funny because he takes it and then grabs the drink fast like he's doing shots. But, he gets it down and that's what matters.
The good news is, his pneumonia was not caused by allergies. It was most definitely a cold. The bad news? Both my husband and I have it now as well. And the kids mom has it, and they were off and on snotting for the past week as well. So, it's defintely a cold and a nasty one at that. I can't seem to get relief yet. I've been drinking so much to try to flush it out of me, taking extra vit C, resorted to advil sinus, and now on cough meds too and nothing seems to help. I hope that it's over soon.

Tomorrow is my 2 week check in and first diet weigh in. As of last week, the 1 week mark, I was down 1 lb. This week, I hope it's more, but I've been drinking more than just water. Over the weekend I had a lot of ginger ale because I didn't feel good, and it was the only thing I could handle. It's not entirely unhealthy, but it's still soda and that's bad. So the appt is tomorrow morning and shouldn't take forever like the last few have. I'm hoping for good traffic because I scheduled it for later so that I could take Kristopher to school and not need help from my mom. I haven't told family I'm doing this one, and I have no intention on telling them. I hate the judgement and questions. So, as many appts as I can sneak past without asking for a babysitter, the better I'll be.
Diet is going ok. I'm tracking using myfitnesspal.com, and it's pretty awesome. I can use it thru an app on my phone, and it helps a lot. Plus, I can cheat by just scanning the bar code and it uploads all the info for me. That makes it very easy. Before the cold, I was doing pretty good.

So that's about it here. Busy but boring.

Sick again

Kristopher was diagnosed with pneumonia again today. This time it has him down. He is not bad enough to be admitted, thankfully, but he is missing school. He's laying around and fever only stays down if we do motrin every 6 hrs. His normal temp is 97, and he's been staying around 100-almost 103. He has a very bad cough this time, and just really out of it. As long as he's at the lower end of the temp, I can get him to eat and drink. He just has not been doing much of either. We have to watch to keep from dehydration or that's a sure ticket to the hospital. For now, motrin and antibiotic, lots of rest and fluids and hopefully he's back to normal real fast.
Not sure what caused it this time. Monday they blew off symptoms as just allergies, and the chest x-ray was clear. Since then, it's settled and is heard. He also complained of chest pain in that immediate area. We go back on June 1st, and I think at that time I will be requesting allergy testing. Up till this year, he has been healthy and only ever had minor colds. This is a whole new ball game and it's really stressing me out. They also said if it's not allergies, it may just be that his immune system has fallen really low. With that, if he gets one more bout of this crap, they will do immune system testing to see what might be going on. It all sounds scary.

Another doctor appt update

Kristopher went to the doctor today. His fever was gone, and he didn't cough the entire time waiting, or for the doctor. He also decided to be all wild and hyper in the room while I was trying to talk, which in turn made the little kids go nuts too. Before the doctor came in, I had all 3 sitting quiet as can be, perfect trip. I mentally was thanking god for such wonderful luck. Then that all hit....But we survived the appt. And everyone got stickers. Yay for stickers!

So, lungs sounded clear, and there was no found reason for his fever. Passed it off as probably just the cold that is going around, and instructed to go back on the singular for allergies. (we had just quit this a little over a week ago because we ran out, and I don't know if it really does any bit of good)
We get in the car and the coughing starts again. Back home, pretty constant coughing. Soundes pretty nasty, not like that dry annoying cough he had for a while. He ate soup and applesauce for lunch, and rested while the 2 little people napped. He decided he missed school, so we worked on the packet of reading homework for the rest of this week. We read a book and we did some spy puzzles. Then the kids got up and he was back to making them go wild and crazy again. Then all of a sudden he goes and lays on the couch. His lips were purple-ish and his face was getting all red again. Sure enough, motrin wore off and fever was back. 102.3. I called the doctor and the nurse put a note back for him, and in the meantime said to get more motrin in him, and if needed, a bath. So, I gave him the motrin. He rested. After no drop in 45 mins, I made him get a bath. That dropped things, and the doctor called back. He asked me to go out to the hospital and get a chest x-ray done just to be sure this hasn't settled again. Apparently he is high risk now since it's only been a month since we've been cleared. Chest x-ray appears to be normal, but we won't get the official reading till tomorrow. By the time we were home, he was hungry, fever was back to the 99's and he was acting more normal.
I'm hoping that by morning, he is back to normal and no fever. It's a big day at school and he is going to be so upset if he misses out. And Wednesday is even bigger day, and a t-ball game. Besides the fact that I kept him home today and he missed out on a few things, and then turned around and spent half the day bouncing off the walls. I really don't need a repeat of that. It's pretty exhausting and I'm kinda scared to see what summer is going to be like. The little kids really look up to him and he loves them just as much. It's cute, but I'm going to need a giant bottle of advil to survive the summer....

Weekend

I hope the mom's had a good mother's day yesterday.

For mother's day, I got a really cute card and hand print thing that Kristopher made in school. He spent the night at my parents house on Saturday night, and while there they got me a hanging flower planter that he picked several flowers for. He called me early to wish me a "Happy Valentines Day! Ohhhhh I mean mother's day!!! Opps!!" So funny.

So, we had most of the morning to ourselves since he was up there. We got up earlier than normal on a Sunday, and took a 2 hr walk thru the parks here and around town. It felt pretty good. I really wanted something bad and mega unhealthy for breakfast, but we came home and made some low fat wraps that ended up being pretty awesome. We ran to the greenhouse so I could pick up a nice flower for my mother, and then we went up to pick up Kristopher.

When we get there, he's just glued to the tv, and red faced. She said he wasn't eating much, and just sitting around. Uh oh....That is NEVER a good sign. The kid eats like a grown man, so him not hungry is our #1 sign. Add the just sitting around and alarms should be going off. Throw in the red face and ears and you know he's really sick. We got home and took his temp, and it was 102 under his arm. Not good. I gave him tylenol and he asked if he could watch a movie in bed. We set that up for him, and within 5 mins he was out cold. I let him nap a little and went to buy motrin. That always works best for him. When I got back, he was still asleep, but still warm. Woke him for a new temp, and he was wild and confused. Almost like night terror state, so we just got him uncovered and resting again. The fever had broke and he was soaked. He was still really out of it, so I left him sleep some more. He slept until around 7-7:30 last night. I went to check and he was just laying there all quiet, but awake. The temp was rising again, and he was a little hungry. I got him to eat a grahm cracker and take a bath, and still warm so gave him motrin.
He watched a movie and rested, and then fell asleep and slept all night. Again this morning, he is still warm and the temp is rising back up to almost 101. Frustrating!! And he has a pretty constant, nasty sounding cough. So, I am hoping to get through to the doctor as soon as they open today.
He's upset that he's home today, and this will make him lose out on the special pasta dinner they do for kids who don't miss more than 3 days. Today will put him at 3.5 days missed. He almost made it with pretty good attendance this year. And tomorrow they have a big field day/health fair event, and he's worried he will miss that. As long as we can get this fever to go away and stay away, he can go back to school. I hope he makes it back for the special day tomorrow.

So, the weekend wasn't too bad except for ending with a sick boy. I managed to stick to the diet pretty good, and get some really good exercise. I'm not weighing in till either Wednesday or Thursday. I hope to see at least a pound or 2 dropped. That will motivate me pretty good. Plus, the 2nd number will drop too, so that's always exciting and feels like more than just a small loss.

Friday review

I'm still surviving. It's REALLY hard to try to track every single thing. I loaded my fitness pal app on my phone, so that has made it kinda easier. And, you can add friends and support each other. So if you are trying to lose weight, or just lead a healthier lifestyle, check it out. I really like it.

Today I managed to stay just a few below the 1200 calorie mark. I also walked for the 2nd day in a row with the kids. We walked pretty steady for around half hour thru the park and to and from school. It helps that it's spring time. I also drank a TON of water today. I'm going to avoid the scale till Wednesday though. Weigh in only once a week.

Tomorrow Kristopher is going to spend the night with my parents. Since we moved, he makes this a pretty regular event. Once, sometimes twice a month. And if we get close to a full month, he gets highly upset and begs and pleads to go. It's been a little while, so I said it's fine for tomorrow. And, it's the first weekend since fall that it's going to be nice, warm and he can be out to play. I know he misses that. While he is gone, I'm going to catch up on some projects around here, and hopefully go out with my husband for some kind of adventure. We use to go around just to discover new places and explore. We don't do it as much because 1, of the gas prices. And 2, sometimes it's really complicated with Kristopher along. He always needs to know where we are going, what we can do there, and if we change it up last minute, he is all annoyed. So we tend to check places out first so there is not the disappointment.

a little more on yesterday

Yesterday really was not a good day. Mentally or in general. But it IS over, so I will recap my appt.

First I had the weight check and found out I've lost just about 2 pounds. That was nice seeing how I have not left the Easter candy alone.
Next they started bloodwork. A lot of baseline/fasting tubes, then I had to drink the nasty orange drink to do a glucose test. Blood taken every half hour for 2 hours. After that was all over, I got a snack to recover from losing what felt like half the blood in my body.
Next I had a scan which checked bone density. Apparently that is something else that we with PCOS have to worry about. It was pretty boring and lasted about 10 mins.
The final test was a fitness treadmill test. I lasted about half way and felt very weak and decided to stop. I felt stupid because it was only 15 mins on the thing. But I had not eaten much, it was almost lunch time at that point, and it was very awkward. I had to wear a thing to track heart rate and a bp cuff, while getting that checked every 5 minutes. The entire time I had them on either side of me watching every detail. Basically, I felt like a cow on display.
But, I still passed the fitness part and am claimed physically ok to exercise.
My requirements are to exercise for 3 10 min slots per week, eat a 1000-1200 calorie diet and a goal of losing 10% of my weight in 16 weeks. When I do this on my own, I do more than 10 min of exercise and was doing at least 5 days a week. Maybe I was burning myself out with it. I have set myself a personal goal of at least 4 days of 30 min on the elliptical and whatever extra exercise I can fit in. I think if I stick to it I can easily pass their goal.

And I'm in & other updates

I've passed all my tests and I'm officially in this study thing again. In the group that is just diet & exercise because I lucked out and my bmi was low enough that I can't get the diet pill. I'm fine with that. I know if I put the time and effort into things, I can lose the weight with dieting and exercising for real. And, I've already lost 2lbs since the last visit. That's even with the Easter candy drama.

Mentally things have not been good here. I feel very alone and feel like I have no one to talk to. So while I am avoiding the rest of the world right now, the blog makes me feel like I am not totally alone. But still, it helps to have a real person to talk to when things aren't going your way. I'm sick of the computer being the only means of adult interaction (minus my husband and the kids' parents when I babysit)

So for now, I'm going to do my own thing. I'm trying to keep busy, and stay off the computer. This is the first I've had it on since the weekend, other than a quick check on something on Monday. I only really turned it on to log this, and to email the final info to the study. So those of you that read this, that keep in touch with me by email/chat/whatever, I'm dealing in my own way with my own issues and I am just a crappy friend right now. And to be honest, I'm always more than willing to help people out, and go out of my way to be there for them when they need it. But the few times I actually reach out, people are not there. I'm just so tired with everything. I've realized the only person who can help me is me. I'm giving this all I have. The diet starts tomorrow. The exercise starts tomorrow. Less lazy and more crazy. But good kind of crazy. I have a giant list of things I want to accomplish, and things I've put off for a while.
Change is good. It's time to be more positive and get over this blah phase.

And in happier news, Kristopher made it the entire month of April with no warnings or bad behavior at school. He gets to participate in a special pizza party, and we rewarded him here too. His new goal is to make it thru the end of the year with the same, and I need to think up a really good reward if he makes it. He's trying so hard and it's amazing how much school has changed him. He's playing his final year of t-ball right now, listens and focuses when needed, and I've heard him telling other kids what is expected. Not in a bossy way, but to try to keep them from getting into trouble.
And with reading class, he's moved up to chapter books. Which is pretty awesome. I can't believe school is almost over and that it's almost summer.

So that's the update here. I plan to track this the same as I did the other one, and hopefully blog more. Gotta clear my mind somehow. I felt better last time I did this more regularly.
