I've seen this on several different blogs and I really feel like I agree. A lot of people make new years resolutions. I have tried, and I always fail. Summer is like a new start to me as well. The weather is warmer (or insanely hot like it is already here) and most of our time is spent enjoying outside. So I do have a ton of goals for the summer.
First is obviously the move. We are 20 days from signing. Once we are in, I want to try to throw together a small garden. I want to plant carrots, peas, lettuce and 2 or 3 tomato plants. And some herbs.
Since we will have a really nice yard, I also want to get Kristopher a wooden swing set. We had one of the step 2 sets for several years but my freakishly tall child has long outgrown that. We passed it down to the little kids. I think it's time for a really kick butt swing set at home.
I'm going to continue working hard at the weight loss. I had my 3rd appt today, and I'm down another 2lbs. It inspires me, and I'd love to try to lose at least 5lbs per appt now. That's keeping it a slow go, but still managing something. I actually think once we move, it will happen a lot easier. If I can push that to 2lbs per week from now till I'm done, I'll pass their goal and hit my own. I would love nothing more than to see that happen because that will be almost cooler weather. I have a ton of really nice clothes that I got when I did this before, and I'd love to be able to wear them all comfortably this fall and winter. (I just went and ate 3 cookies after writing this because it's been one of those days already.)
Summer plans for keeping Kristopher challenged. Someone gave us a pile of magic treehouse books. He wants to read them all. So, we're going to have reading time during the little kids nap time. He also needs a lot of practice on his fine motor skills. So, lots of writing activities, cutting, and a big milestone we'd like to see happen is teaching him to tie his shoes. Right now he lives in sketchers which are nice, but I got a few pair of hiking boots/work boots on clearance in a size up and I'd like for him to be able to wear and use them on his own.
Another goal he has is to learn to ride his bikes without training wheels. He does not do well on his bike WITH training wheels. We've been practicing and he's slowly learning that a little shift is not going to flip the bike, and I even noticed yesterday that at one point neither training wheel completely touched the ground. I've started making it a race and he's been giving me quite the workout when he gets to going fast. He also needs to learn how to stop when things start to get too out of control. He just panics and I have to grab the bike to keep him from going off the sidewalk and into the street. Fun stuff.
Other than all that, I just want for the summer to be more laid back and fun. I need to find a way to lower my stress levels and learn to sit back and enjoy what we have now. I spend way too much time stressing stuff that in the long run is not that important. I've missed out on a lot of fun experiences and memories by worrying about all the what ifs, and I think it's time to change that. It will be a much better summer for everyone.
