She's home!

It took until after 3 for the vet to finally call me back. They did a total blood work up and determined that she is anemic. That explains a lot but I was confused on how that happened seeing as she's not bleeding. I asked a billion questions and have done a lot of research so I think I understand that now.
The other concern is her obvious pain when she would lay on her belly. They are doing a special blood test that will tell us if her pancreas is bad. If it is normal levels, then it's assumed that it's just a bout of pancrentitas (sp?) and the antibiotics will cure that. If it's bad results, it basically means she is just going to have to take a supplement daily for the rest of her life to help her digest her food better. More research and I am understanding all that better too.
So she is home! No more poop problems since last night at 7:30pm, and she's a lot more alert. She was so excited to see me when they brought her to me. Tail wagging and she was crying for me. She ran to me which was so great to see! Then we left the office and went to the car and she decided to act pissy with me in the car. She kept ignoring me and turned her head away like "how dare you leave me like that!" When we got home she ran to the door. She was so happy to be home! I got her to be happy with me again by feeding her and she took her pills great. She's on 750mgs of antibiotics for 10 days.
The special blood work will be back next week mid week. Until then, I'm suppose to just keep her comfy, keep giving the antibiotics, her pasta/burger diet till she's pooping normal again for at least 2 days, then wean her back onto her dog food. And they told me to keep her on the main floor so me and her are going to be sleeping in the living room till she is able to do the steps without difficulty. The couch is not that comfy but I can't leave her down here alone.
But anyway, she's home! She will be ok! She's already showing signs of improvement. I feel much better now.

  1. Great!

Have you ever heard of Heinz Anemia? It's very serious for pets and it caused by them eating onions. I don't know if Zoey had an opportunity to get a little bit of one somehow but I'm always freaked out when chopping onions that a little piece will fall on the floor and one of the cats will try to get it. One time Muffy got a lick of some taco bell sauce (creamy jalapeƱo sauce) and seemed to be lethargic for a while afterwards and I was freaked out that it might have had onion powder in it. She recovered fine, but seemed off for a while.

Well, I hope the rest of the blood work comes back good and that she's home.

  2. Yeah I've heard that about onions. She definitely has not gotten any or had anything with onion powder. I don't like onions so we rarely cook with them.
