An answer

Apparently Kristopher has "Cough Variant Asthma". She feels that it was triggered by a virus or a sinus infection, and we are going to have a follow up xray in 3 weeks. And, need to watch him closely with colds to make sure they run their course and move on, or if it's going to linger and cause more drama.
I'm going to stick with the practice under the understanding that she is the only doctor I will see since she is the only one who has taken the time to research all his chart, and all our sick appts and ER trips.
He is doing a lot better and has been pretty much cough free. Still acts a little worn out by the end of the day, and not 100% back with his eating yet, but A LOT better than just a week ago. So I guess it's yay for answers at this point. Time will tell how this will play out.

Pneumonia

Is the diagnosis. We went to the doctor last night, and they sent us home with an rx and said that since allergy meds are not clearing it up, that we will give this a try in case it's something missed and bacterial. He had a low grade fever and was clearly not like himself at all. He curled up and just watched tv last night. Skipped supper, barely drank anything, and was in bed early. Slept all night long with mild coughing, and it took me several tries to get him awake this morning.
Once awake, he said he wasn't hungry for breakfast. He wouldn't drink anything, and was looking very rough. He insisted he wanted to go to school, and tried to finish his homework that we skipped last night. While standing, he started to shake and got all wobbily. So, I told him to sit down, and when he turned to do so, he started falling into things. His face was very white and his lips were same. I helped him over to the couch and he was tripping and so unstable. After he laid down, he was ok. I tried to get him to drink water and he refused it. So I called Dennis and got him to come home. The kids just arrived so I had their mom call off, and said we were taking him to the ER. While rushing around to get ready to go, I had him drink a juice box. It took him about 45 mins to drink it, and typical for him is in 5 mins. Tops. So, when Dennis got home, he had to carry him to the car because he was still shakey and unstable, and very pale. We skipped the local hospital and took him straight to the one that has a children's hopsital. It does not have a children's ER but the staff was amazing. We had absolutely no wait time, registered and back to a room, and testing started very quickly. He had a sugar check, urine test, EKG, and chest xray. Urine showed that he was starting to become dehydrated, blood sugar was kinda low, and EKG was fine. Chest x-ray however shows he has pneumonia. And enough that 3 seperate people in the room could hear it when listening to the lungs. It's only on the right side, and definitely did not just start. I believe it was missed when we were seen at the local place. I'm highly upset.
So he had crackers and apple juice and got all hyper so we were released. We need to push fluids, make him eat for meds, and if he is fever free still tomorrow, he can go back to school with no restrictions. Follow up is next Wednesday or sooner if no improvement. He's already acting a lot better and he's carrying around a drink everywhere.
So that's our update. I'm exhausted and very distracted so I'll leave it at that.

To the doctor...AGAIN

Kristopher is going back to the doctor again tonight. The coughing will not ease up, and the allergy symptoms are still there. He's currently on a rx allergy med, benedryl every 4-6 hrs during the day, rx nose spray, and we've bought the air purifiers and humidifier to help. We've inclined the bed to help him breathe better at night, and none of this is working. He isn't sleeping enough, I'm not sleeping enough, and we're both getting moody and mean.
Last Friday he had his first bad report from school because he snapped at someone and was just out of it. She said it was not like him, and hopefully it's a one time thing.
I don't know what is going on, but I feel it is more than allergies, and they need to figure this out. Even if it's to give him a rx cough med for sleeping, it will make things a lot better. Obviously their current approach is not working and when it interferes with his normal day to day behavior, then it needs fixed. I hate how often we've been going to appts and dealing with this drama.

And I wait

My follow up appt will be April 6th. That's the soonest I can be seen by this doctor. They won't let me see someone else till the follow up is done.
Basically, he said my choices are:
pursue further infertility treatments and get what I want then control the pcos properly. (for real, his words)
Go on birth control and control things.
Or let it go and end up with a hysterectomy.
He bashed the herbs, saying that the only #1 way to control PCOS without hysterectomy is to go on birth control and that herbs won't do what I need.
He was annoyed with me that I was asking so many questions about what they offer as far as treatments. He isn't up to speed with what I've experienced from the RE's in the past, so he basically said he can help me with management but go somewhere else for infertility part of things.
I pushed and got an u/s done this afternoon. I will not get official results till that April 6th appt. However, I asked the tech and the lining is under control and no concerns with my uterus. Well other than the fact that it's being marked as "tilted" and she said the doctor needs to document that.
The ovaries, are bad. It looks like usual pcos line up, but bigger, chunkier looking follicles or cysts or whatever. Nothing that is taking over an ovary, but definitely larger than what I've had before. It looks kinda like the way after I ovulated, but at least 6-8 on each. Explains the pain though.
After the u/s, the probe looked like a murder weapon. Lovely pressure and all that digging around caused the spotting to get all nasty for a few hours.
I had the most awesome tech today though and she talked to me the whole time, and let me check out the screen instead of hiding it. She asked me what I thought I was seeing and confirmed rather than saying to wait for my follow up. If I decide to go back for further testing, then I want my u/s follow ups to be there. They were awesome.
So, tomorrow I need to decide if I want to call the RE back, and get pricing info on IUI's and find out what other options are. The herbs I was told I would have to go on the nasty one for 3-6 months to clean the ovaries and uterus. It's nasty and the worst of the ones I've tried, so I'd like to figure out other options. I do believe though that it's not totally true cysts, and pretty much appears to be the PCOS line up, just fatter. Maybe I should lay off the junk. yeah. That's it. The cookies and candy made my cysts fat.

Tomorrow

I finally got a doctor appt to discuss whatever is going on with my ovaries this time. The past few weeks I've had a lot of pain in that area, and on both sides. My ER trip was on February 2nd, and I've had 2 periods since then and am spotting again. I'm sick of this. I have decided rather than just starting the herbs, I need to know what I'm dealing with in there first.

Tomorrow is just a consult, and I probably won't get an u/s done for at least another week. We will see. Either way, tomorrow is a start. They better give me some good advice on how to keep things under control so I can get back on track with diet and exercise and give me one more chance to try again for another baby.
We said years ago that when Kristopher was born, our deadline for a 2nd will be by the time we're 30. I'm 28. I refuse to put that kind of distance between my kids, so if it doesn't happen in the next 2 years, I'm finished and will move on past this. If we can't get the bleeding and pain issues under control and somehow make me as normal as we can (in that department anyway) then I'll just give up now. I have had about all I can handle out of this stupid fertility drama, and the irregular periods is just pissing me off at this point. I want a normal life, and to feel normal.
I don't want to deal with the ongoing wonder of if I'm going to go months upon months without a period. And I don't want this new extreme of every other week. I had this years ago and it almost got to the point of hysterectomy. Luckily at the time I had a really awesome RE who had pushed to try a few more things, and had gotten me under control. But it's slowly working back again.
I hope that the u/s just shows a few minor cysts. No extreme lining issues, and no giant cysts that will require any surgery.
I'm exhausted, I hurt, and I've got major hormonal imbalance and haven't felt like sugar coating anything so I'll just refrain from posting daily for a while.
Anyway, that's my rambling catch up for this week. Depending on my attitude tomorrow, I may follow up with a new post about the appt.
