Last night we had back to school night and met Kristopher's new teacher. It's so hard to believe that he is starting 2nd grade. They did a transition and special meetings between him and the 2nd grade teachers last year, so he was already very aware of the 2nd grade layout, and already knew his teacher pretty well. I think this year may just be the best year he's had yet. She seems to be the best teacher so far. She loves animals, so he is very excited about that, and she is very positive focused. And she already knows all about Kristopher and the anxiety issues we've experienced in previous years. She has him sitting near the front of the group, and has some special jobs to include him in so he doesn't get bored. She also has reading & math ideas for some extra projects to help him from feeling bored.
Last school year he had completed math facts up to mid 4th grade level, and was reading around the same point. They require all group activities to be on group level so that when they do the 3rd and up testing, they are not lost and confused.
Overall, he's pretty excited to start back up. We got all the supplies and his backpack is packed and ready. We're experiencing a lot less anxiety this year. One thing that I did notice with visiting the classroom last night, not many kids are still here. We live in an area that has a lot of army that are only here for one year, so we must have had a ton of newbies move in. I believe out of 17 kids, 3 are names that he has seen in the past few years. The other 2nd grade class has a little more that he has seen before, but no names that click as real friends. I hope he can meet some new friends this year and have that connection again.
