This is Roxie. She is 9 weeks old, and a bundle of fluffy energy. She's basically a newborn. I have been up 3-4 times a night the first night, and last night 2 times. She is awake for about an hour at a time during the day, and is raring to go. Then, she crashes so hard and in such a deep sleep that she is like a floppy rag doll to move her to her bed or crate.
Crate training is going well, house training is half and half. I try to get her out as frequently as I can, but she drinks so much for being so little. She does respond to "no" so when I catch her wondering off and starting to squat, I say no and she can hold it till I get her out. The only accidents we have had, are tiny ones. Easy to clean up. I hope I can get her on a real nice balance of this by the 17th. That's when the kids come back.
While I love this little furball like crazy, I still miss my Zoey so much. It's a great distraction, but I'd give anything to have my old lazy girl back. She was so easy, when she wasn't sick. I know we will get to the same point with Roxie in a few months, but for now, she's definitely keeping me active and alert.
Kristopher is excited, but also kind of upset at the same time. She's extremely attached to me, but shy with everyone else. So, he hasn't got to do half of what he had thought would happen with having a puppy. I told him that I'm sure they will become best friends in no time, and she just needs to get use to him. Once she knows he's friendly and fun, they will be best friends. I know he's mixed because the only way this was possible at this time was because of what happened with Zoey. Had she still been here, I'd never have pushed so hard to get a puppy right now. But, she's here, and so loved already.
Awe! SO cute! I'm glad that you got your girl.
ReplyDeleteWhen DH's cousin got a new puppy and Michael was still little I was completely jealous of how well the dog napped. If only my baby could have done that.
I got this book at the library the other week by mistake. It was called "The Best Cat in the World." I just grabbed it off the shelf and thought it would be a good book for Michael since we love cats but it was actually a book about a little boy losing his beloved cat and getting a new one and not liking the new cat so much since it wasn't like his old cat... but he comes around and bonds with the cat. Totally sad, I cried the first time I read it (you know, because the pet dies) but maybe it would be a good book for K if you can find it.
We also got another book called "City Dog Country Frog" which K is probably too old for, but it connects the changing of the seasons with the friendship of a dog and a frog and the frog passes and a new season comes around and the dog learns to go on.... It's a very quick book, but it's by Mo Willems so most libraries probably have it if you want to give it a look.
