We are moved. We actually started the huge part of things last Friday. Before this point in the day I should add. We still have maybe one, possibly 2, car loads left at my parents. I'm just beyond exhausted at this point, so it's waiting.
So the move. It was a disaster. Everything that could go wrong, did. We started by signing the lease and getting keys on Thursday. We rented in the exact area about 3 yrs ago. So we were told the house was the same, and we didn't push to see things first. It's across the parking lot from the old one, and some things are most definitely different. One is we have a walk out basement instead of a back patio and sliding doors. I knew this, and was fine with that. The basement has a totally different layout though, and is scary. We plan to do the paint and make it a playroom and nice storage area, but for now it's just staying scary. The washer and dryer had to be in my kitchen. We eat in the kitchen because the dining area is over carpet, and I do not like the idea of feeding kids meals in a room that is all carpet. So, we improvised there and stacked our washer and dryer. It worked out and at least it's a really nice new set and fits nicely.
Speaking of washer and dryer, we had a horrible experience with best buy when we picked those up. What should have been a simple pick up since it was ordered and paid for almost 2 weeks in advance, ended up taking about 2 hrs in the actual store. Nightmare.
And back to the actual move. Our helpers backed out on us, so we had just both sets of our parents, and my friend who I babysit for. It rained, so we ended up renting a uhaul as well. Things did not go smoothly and we were non stop from Thursday night when we got the keys, till Monday. Tuesday I got the kids back and have just been at home working on making things nice. I'm exhausted, but I finally feel like things are falling into place. All that is left is a few odds and ends boxes of stuff that needs into nicer storage options, and the stuff on the walls. This weekend we will be DONE!!
Last night was new student orientation at the school. We still don't have his classroom info, so he met both of the kindergarten teachers and saw both rooms. We got the tour of the school and what expectations they have. Our teacher info and start date paperwork will be arriving tomorrow or Monday. He's excited but I can honestly say that the way he acted for a while after being at the school is scary. I kinda wish we would have visited the homeschool idea more, but I know that for him, it's best to be in a school. But....if he ever gets to the point that school is not fun, and he is upset, I won't waste any time with pulling him and homeschooling.
But anyway, I'm back and will be updating more frequently now.
I'm sorry to hear the move went so poorly. Even the best moves suck, so I bet it was a real nightmare.
ReplyDeleteI hope K does well with school. I'd definitely encourage you to give it some time. This is going to be a lot different for him and it will be hard to adjust, but it will definitely provide a lot or learning and independence.
I know this is not the same at all, and I'm still not 100% at peace with M at daycare, but it took a good 6 weeks for him to just start getting into the daycare groove. I really wanted to pull him and put him somewhere else, but we stuck it out and I think he does really well there now. So I think the adjustment was worth it. I know if I were at home with him I'd have a whole other set of challenges to deal with there.
