Yeah. You read that right. I'm actually excited about laundry. Not only because I love my nice new washer and dryer, but because I've decided to switch to homemade detergent as well. Yesterday a friend visited and we finally gave it a try. Super easy to make! I was shocked. It smells good too. You can add more to it, but I went with the basic and kept with the original soap smell because I'm not sure what scents would give me a reaction. From what I've been told, this is baby safe, diaper safe, and sensitive skin safe. Oh and HE safe as well!
It only has 3 ingredients, other than water, and it was super cheap to make. I think total, including tax, it was right under $6. 2 of the ingredients there is enough there for MANY more mixes, and the soap bar was only 89 cents. It makes 10 gallons for one recipe! So, definitely going to save a ton here!
But anyway, the detergent needs to sit for 24 hrs to firm up a little and it has been driving me nuts. I really want to try it.
Another friend of mine has actually tried it for several weeks now and said the clothes are softer and cleaner. It's even managed to take out the formula and baby food stains off the baby clothes.
I'll do my own review after a week or 2 of using it. Till then, I just had to share my new adventure and weird excitement over laundry.....
I hope you'll share how it works out. I've thought about doing that, but with the diapers, our motto is 'if it ain't broke....' So we haven't wanted to mess with the routine, but I think I will keep it on my mind to try.
