Cleaning

I figured now that I've been doing it for about 2 months now, it was time for another natural cleaning update.
The laundry detergent. I LOVE IT. I will never buy "real" detergent again. I've completely eliminated the use of fabric softener, and our clothes are softer than when I used it. Everything seems to come out easier. Now that Kristopher is in school, his clothes appear to be worse at the end of the day. Every day there are grass stains from the playground, and most days we have marker or paint marks too. So far, all that has come right out without any pre-treating. No complaints about it at all here. Oh and even though it is soap based, I've been actually doing better with my skin issues.

The dishwasher detergent. I will confess that I quit using it about 3 weeks ago. I don't know if it is our water, or the lack of an ingredient locally. I was substituting like the recipe said, but I was not happy. I plan to try it again when I have the chance to find the actual citric acid that we needed. But for now, I'm going the easy route and buying the tabs again. I am lazy and I will not sit there and scrub and basically pre-wash everything. I rinse off chunks and that is it. It has to be simple.

Other than that, I've been using a mixture of items for cleaning and have not bought any actual cleaning products in a while. I know with the amount of laundry I do, I've already saved a ton in the detergent. And, we have about 3/4 of the batch still left, after 2 months. That was split in half with a friend, so a full batch would last us a very very VERY long time. Not bad at all.....

  1. I'm iffy on the dishwasher detergent. It seems to work but we pre-rinse everything pretty well. And you definitely need a rinse agent.

We've been making good use of vinegar around here. We used 50/50 vinegar/water in a spray bottle for everything, even baby spit up on the carpet. I'm pretty happy that I'm not using the harsh solvents where he plays and it seems to work (and you can rub in some borax for tougher stains and vacuum it up).
