5 yr appt

K had his 5 yr check up today. He is 48.5lbs, which put him in the 90% there...And measured 46.5 inches, but he was not standing right. Recently here we measured and he was just about 48 inches. Either way, he's in the 95% for height. He passed his hearing & vision tests without a single issue, and is doing great.
Concerns right now is the fact he's not in full time preschool. I told her we don't really have much options here, and it's too late to enroll in anything. He will do the program like last year with the child care class at the high school, so he will have 6 weeks, 2 seperate times this school year. And we have made a much better effort in getting him out and socializing with other kids. He's doing a lot better.
The other concern was when she did the whole "private" exam...Never a problem before but apparently one side didn't drop properly. It took "a lot of coaxing". Like I said, never a concern before now, and maybe he was just too cold. It is 43 here today after all. Anyway, if there is still a concern at the next appt, we will have to see a urologist. She had a little talk with him about proper terms and now he thinks he has tentacles like squidworth from spongebob. Great.
And she's referred us for a speech evaluation. He has issues with saying his L's. It comes out as a W sound. Which is turning out to be not so great anymore because he's obsessed with the microwave time and if someone forgets to press the clear button, we here "You didn't press dat cwear button!!!" Or crossing the street he says "aww cwear!" TH was the other concern. But I was actually shocked for that referral. Everyone we meet can understand him just fine, and he typically talks non stop. But I'm going to have them come out just to be sure everything is ok.
And the last issue was he has a wart on his thumb that bothers him so we are going to try the freeze away kit and if that doesn't work he goes back for that to be removed.
He got 2 shots today and didn't even flinch. Did really great and they gave him an extra sticker. He declared it to be the best day ever as we were walking out of the dr's office. My kid is weird. But hey, at least he didn't flip out and fight the shots.
We don't go back till it's time for kindergarten registration.

  1. All the little boy private part issues are very mysterious to me. Which seems a little weird, but I have no idea what is normal there and not. I spent all last night trying to figure out how to care for a baby after circumcision. Tiny pee pees and testicles are kinda scary to me.

But I got a kick out of my HCG insert, because I know that is used to get testicles to drop and it had the specific instructions in it for that, but not for triggering.

I think that speech stuff is pretty common. At his age I think the school system should be offering therapy (I think they pick up around 3 in this state). My SIL works for a non profit that does speech therapy and I've overheard a lot of conversations between her and some of the cousins cause their kids had problems. Once one of the cousins kids got into therapy it was amazing, she went from 95% made up word and non-verbal communication to actually being able to understand her.
