And it's home...

Since I've moved, I've had a major change in my attitude and outlook. For 10 years now, we've lived together. We've moved A LOT. Each place has been for real reasons, and on to better places or for a real reason. This last move was not even a year from the one prior. When we moved last August, we were sure that was for several years and we would probably stay through elementary school. Obviously, things changed. Rental office changed pet policies, and we wanted another dog. Rental office started letting trashy people rent as long as they got their money. Rent was going up, service and quality was going way down. It was a huge disappointment. So when this opportunity came up, we jumped. It's a cheaper place, but bigger. It's a full house, not a townhouse. It has one of the best yards in town. Seriously. It's like a triple size lot and VERY rare for in town. And not only is it big, it is nice. Perfect for kids, for pets, for gardens, for flowers, pool, whatever. It's just awesome.
And the layout is different. It was originally built as a business, with an apartment above. Then, it was made into a home, leaving the main living area on the top, but liveable downstairs as well. So, you come in and go up steps to the main area. Kinda like a ranch style home, but on the 2nd story. Kristopher called it the upside down house. Another thing that stands out, is we have burnt orange/reddish carpet from the 70's. It's fluffy and soft, but really stands out. A lot of people would freak out, but I actually love this carpet. The old townhouse had cheap stuff that was easy to replace each time, and it was horrible. So rough and uncomfortable. And UGLY. This is so soft, so comfy, and while it's wild and bright, it just goes with my style. Blends in great. Oh and we have paneling. At first I was like nooooo not paneling!! But that's even faded in my mind when I see how it's changed and blended to fit our family. I feel it looks nice now. I am happy. I like it. And for the first time in over 10 years, I feel like this is home. In all the places I've lived, I've never had this feeling. EVER.
So I'm in my happy satisfied weirdo land and someone has to come along and crush it. How? They decide to make fun of the carpet in a picture I posted. Then someone else visits and says something about the paneling and carpet. Double shot. Oh and lets point out a few spots of the fence that is falling apart due to the recent tornado/bad storm activity we had. And while we're at it, did you see all the weeds in the flower beds??? Why yes, I did notice that. I've been here 3 flipping weeks. Did you see all of what I did accomplish? Idiots. People really annoy me. When they are so miserble and hate their own lives to the point of having to find flaws in every freaking thing. I no longer have the patience to deal with that. So I fired back. And I hit a nerve and am no longer talked to by a certain person. Oh well. I'm back in my happy land and love my house. Orange crazy carpet, upside down, paneled old house. And I hope that somehow, someday, this will be mine forever. Because I love it that much that I finally feel like I could live the rest of my life here, have more kids, raise our family and grow old here. That's something I've never felt before and for once, I am satisfied about something. It's a nice feeling. I have a real home finally.

  1. I'm glad that you like it so much!

I'm always weary of rental carpet, no matter what. Sorry... traumatic pet stain memories, but if you like it, that's what matters. I try to have a good sense of humor about funky and odd colored stuff (especially bathrooms). Paneling is something that I would have turned my nose up at a couple of years ago, but it really doesn't bother me anymore. My BIL and SIL painted their paneling and I thought that would look terrible but it really looks great. When I think about the room in their house that is paneling on all walls I think about how cool it looks and not about the paneling (and it's purple too!).

Different layouts work for different people. Where I'm from everyone lives on the side of a hill (yes, we're hill people) so we all have 2 or more stories (in case the hill is really steep). I always referred them as having an "upstairs" and "downstairs". The front of most houses is actually the back too. I thought it was so weird when one of my friend's houses had a downstairs kitchen. But when me and DH started to look for houses I was corrected and told that the downstairs were really basements, but I don't think that's quite right. And then we bought a house that was described by the realtor as having a "different kind of floor plan" and he was really adamant about how "different" it was, but I just think it's awesome. I don't know why more people don't have floor plans like this. So to each his own. The home feeling trumps all. Let the haters enjoy their boring, ugly lives.
